Description :

We are pleased to announce the availability of an experimental post-doc position at the University of Nottingham within the project Optamot, funded by EPSRC and Innovate UK. The vision of the project is to demonstrate an optimised, light-weight, small, effective Rb-MOT system for sensing applications, in particular a gravitational sensor. A large part of the system has been setup recently. The Optamot team consists of engineers, theoretical physicists and experimental physicists, an interdisciplinary approach and good communication skills are therefore desirable. Furthermore the successful candidate will contribute strongly to the ongoing fundamental research projects within the ultracold atoms group, in particular Bose-Einstein Condensates and light-matter interfaces.

The researcher will be an integral part of a larger team with researchers from the cold atoms group including theoreticians, numerical modelling and experimentalists. The main responsibility of the post is to carry out experimental research in the area of cold atoms and quantum technologies (working with Rb and Cs systems), to analyse and present data, to co-supervise PhD and master students and disseminate research results in high impact journals and conference presentations. The candidate will join an international research team consisting of the supervisor, a postdoctoral researcher and 3 PhD students.

This is a full time, fixed term post for a period of 12 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Lucia Hackermueller, tel: 0115 8468824 or email lucia.hackermuller@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
