Since 1946 the School of Sociology and Social Policy has been a leading international university department for theoretically-engaged, socially-relevant and broadly conceived sociological studies. The School provides one of the largest university environments for research and teaching in sociology and social policy in the UK, and continues the proud tradition of social sciences in Leeds that began in 1909 soon after the University itself was founded. The School pioneered Disability Studies, it has played a prominent role in development of realist methodologies and qualitative longitudinal research, the study of genders, bodies and technologies, life course, youth and family research and the articulation between critical race theory and postcolonial/decolonial studies.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to make a significant leadership contribution to research and teaching in the School of Sociology and Social Policy. You will be expected to take a leading role in delivering the school’s REF agenda, carrying out interdisciplinary/collaborative research with impact, mentoring early career staff and PhD students and sociology teaching. We seek colleagues who work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary fashion and who will contribute to established strengths in our teaching. You will also be expected to play an active part in the management of the School by taking on a significant administrative role in relation to research and/or teaching. We welcome applications from candidates who can complement and contribute to our core programmes of research and teaching. We are expanding our teaching in the areas of culture and media and encourage candidates interested in contributing to this aspect of student education.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
