This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious sport and exercise scientist, biomechanist or engineering graduate as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate. The appointed candidate will undertake a dynamic role looking to embed scientific principles into the analysis of trampoline design, and the trampoline-human interaction. The appropriate post holder will have undertaken a research project at undergraduate or master’s level relating to an aspect of motion capture, human-equipment interaction or mechanical analysis (e.g. biomechanical assessments of equipment using motion capture or accelerometers).

The successful candidate will undertake a 36-month collaborative project between Plum Products Ltd. (the UK’s market leading outdoor play and activity supplier) and the Biofeedback Research Group within the School of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Lincoln. Based on the outskirts of Lincoln city, you will be supported by experienced staff from Plum Products and the University of Lincoln to undertake scientific research, thus gain experience in experimental design in support of product development. Additionally, the post holder will develop a deeper understanding of commercial operations, strategy and operational planning processes and marketing strategies on a global scale.

The KTP Associate will receive a highly competitive salary, practical and formal training, advance knowledge within an industry relevant project, and gain valuable experience from commercial and academic mentors. The Associate will also receive an excellent personal development package for training and development, a travel budget, as well as a funded annual visit to the production factory in China. A high specification laptop will also be provided for data analysis. The appropriate post holder will have the option to register for a fully funded part-time PhD at the University of Lincoln alongside this role.

The successful candidate will have a first or 2:1 honours degree in a relevant area. Applicants from sport and exercise science, biomechanics and engineering with a relevant specialism (e.g. biomedical, biomechanical, ergonomics, etc.) are all eligible to apply. A master’s degree is desirable but not essential. This project will involve a significant amount of data collection, analysis and application; therefore, applicants must be competent with experimental data collection and analysis. A strong aptitude for mathematics and ability to program in Matlab / or programming is highly desirable. A full UK driving licence and access to vehicle / own transport – travel to partner sites in rural areas throughout the UK will be a key element of this role.
