We are offering a post-graduate post, funded until end of March 2022, on the NEON study, a Programme Grant for Applied Research, funded by the NHS National Institute for Health Research. The aim of the NEON study is to investigate whether experiencing online stories of personal recovery (‘recovery narratives’) told by peers improves quality of life for people with psychosis. The post is based at the Institute of Mental Health in Nottingham. Further information about NEON can be found at http://researchintorecovery.com/NEON.
The main study tasks will be qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis and conceptual framework development. The appointed Research Assistant will gain substantial experience of a range of research methods, and contribute to the development and evaluation of an online randomised controlled trial and the development and piloting of an intervention for mental health staff.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a world-leading mental health recovery research group led by Mike Slade. The NEON team at the University of Nottingham already includes a Senior Research Fellow (Stefan Rennick-Egglestone) two Research Assistants and an Administrator, and will be appointing a statistician. The appointed research assistant will work closely with NEON researchers employed at other sites, including the Unit for Social and Community Psychiatry at Queen Mary University of London.
The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to personal recovery (whether developed through personal experience or through previous work in the area) and be able to show evidence of interest in research and the ability to engage creatively and productively with mental health service users, workers and managers.
The post will be of particular interest to people wishing to develop their experience and competence in mental health service research. Applicants who have relevant academic experience outside of mental health services and who wish to develop a career as a mental health service researcher may also be interested, as may people ultimately wishing to develop a clinical or especially a clinical academic role.
This is a full time, fixed term post until 31 March 2022. Job share arrangements may be considered.
