Description :

We are looking for a full-time research scientist, to provide support for the research in the Developmental Biology Division at Utrecht University. We study the regulation of cell division and the control of the spatial organisation of cells using the nematode C. elegans as a model system. Our research employs a combination of in vivo, systems biology, and biochemistry approaches, and relies heavily on the use of state-of-the-art microscopy.

Responsibilities

You will provide broad support for the research performed in our division. Main tasks include:

general laboratory support (~ 4-8 hours/week). Together with a second senior technician, you will maintain laboratory equipment (training employees and arranging repairs), maintain supplies inventory (checking stock and placing orders), and train new employees in general rules and guidelines;

fluorescence microscopy support (~ 8 hours/week). We have several wide-field and confocal fluorescence microscopes within our division, and regularly use the equipment in the Biology Imaging Center of our department. You will train employees in the optimal use of our light microscopy setups, and in image processing and quantification. You will also maintain microscope equipment, ensure staff compliance with usage rules, and arrange equipment repair or replacement. You will have support in these activities from experienced technical support personnel from the Biology Imaging Center

research support. You will provide research support to ongoing research projects on an as needed basis. This will entail a wide-variety of possible responsibilities, including molecular cloning, C. elegans genetics, generation of transgenic strains, biochemistry, and microscopy. Testing and optimizing novel techniques is another possible research direction.
