Description :

Surrey Business School (SBS) is an internationally recognised centre for management research and teaching. We are accredited by AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and by AMBA (the Association of MBAs). We are ambitious in building a world-class interdisciplinary business school. Our particular strengths are in digital innovation and technological transformation, international trade and investment, leadership and organizational psychology, sustainability and corporate governance. Based in Guildford just outside of London, the University of Surrey is an outstanding international University with an enterprising spirit.

Surrey Business School is a mid-sized business school with over 110 academic staff members from around the globe, and a highly cohesive and collegial atmosphere. We are growing strongly, both in terms of our size, and in terms of the quality and impact of our work. Specifically, we put a heavy emphasis on research excellence. Our faculty regularly publish their research in top journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of World Business, Human Relations, and Research Policy. Our colleagues have joined us from prestigious universities and business schools worldwide, with recent appointments including individuals who earned their PhD at institutions such as Harvard, MIT, Chicago, LSE, and elsewhere.

Our programmes are renowned for their quality in terms of intellectual rigor, student experience, and employability. As a School, we are becoming increasingly active in executive education (both open-enrolment and tailor-made programmes). Through our Business Insights Lab, we work closely with companies and other stakeholders. In particular, we have strong links with many technology-oriented start-ups and established firms in London, Surrey, and the South-East of England in general. The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship has core research strengths in entrepreneurship, organisation, international business, and strategic management. The Head of Department is Professor Thomas Lawton. Our research increasingly considers the links between strategic management and international business, and we are looking to expand this emphasis. The Department is a healthy mix of research active faculty and practitioner teaching fellows, the latter bringing a wealth of business experience. We thus seek to appoint a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in International Business to join our team. Candidates from adjacent subject areas such as economics and political science are welcome to apply.

We are looking for strongly research-active academics. Lecturers should show clear evidence of their capacity to publish research on international business in top-tier journals. In your teaching, you are expected to emphasise the quality of the student experience. We will ensure that your teaching load is such as to provide you with sufficient time for research. There will be ample opportunities for you to become active in business engagement and executive education.

This is a full-time position. Conditions and compensation will be at internationally competitive standards and be commensurate with the appointees’ experience.

If you are interested in learning more about this position, please contact Professor Thomas Lawton (thomas.lawton@surrey.ac.uk).
