PhD Description:  

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated postgraduate applicant who will contribute to the implementation of EU sustainability initiatives, through the validation of novel concepts in hybrid materials design for heterogeneous catalysis.  The applicant will join a vibrant and well-established research group who are interested in the discovery and design of novel catalytic materials that address fundamental challenges in the chemical, environmental and energy landscape. This project will focus on evaluating the catalytic potential of hybrid materials, with a view to establishing their proficiency in industrially significant fine-chemical and pharmaceutical transformations. Developing innovative design strategies for creating multifunctional, hybrid heterogeneous catalysts and evaluating their potential in asymmetric catalytic transformations will be undertaken.  The candidate will develop proficiency in synthetic chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis, by working alongside world-leading academic and industrial partners.

The project is funded for 3 years and welcomes applicants from the UK and EU who have or expect to obtain at least an upper second-class (2:1) degree in Chemistry or allied subjects/relevant disciplines. Funding will cover fees and a stipend at current research council rates (201819) of £ 14,777 per annum. 

Due to funding restrictions this position is only open to UK/EU applicants who meet the RCUK eligibility criteria.
