Enthusiastic, ambitious and motivated candidates are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the Materials and Structures team of Drs David Jesson and Mike Mulheron at the University of Surrey. This is a 1 year position funded by Industry. The project will involve assisting in the investigation of a failed component and developing models and tools for assessing similar components of a range of designs still in service. 

The purpose of this is to assist asset managers with the task of maintaining several £B of infrastructure and ensuring that future construction work of a similar value can be undertaken safely.

The successful candidate will have:

A PhD in a relevant Engineering subject (typically Mechanical, Civil or Materials Engineering, but some other disciplines will also be appropriate). Experience in the area of Mechanics of Materials Experience with structural modelling/assessment

The post-holder will be supervised by Dr David Jesson and will need to work with academics and technicians in the Departments of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Sciences, and with colleagues from the Industrial Sponsor.

 Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£31,302) per annum (full-time) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate.  Once the verified original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£32,236) per annum (full time).
