Research Assistant / Associate in Science and Technology Studies (Fixed-term, part-time) (SOC400218)

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated research associate with experience in conducting multidisciplinary research in Science and Technology Studies, Digital Sociology and the Sociology of Social Inequalities. You will be a member of the Institute for Science and Society working under the direction of Professor Dimitris Papadopoulos. 100% of the role will be dedicated to the UKRI Newton/Colciencias-funded project “Mending the New: A Framework for Reconciliation Through Testimonial Digital Textiles in the Transition to Post-Conflict Rural Colombia”. The primary responsibility of the role is to oversee the technological development of a digital textile. The candidate must have experience of working within current networks of hackers, makers, repairers and menders and will have excellent organisational skills for convening a make-a-thon in Nottingham. The role involves working within an international interdisciplinary team and the candidate is expected to have experience of working across disciplines and with scholars based in the Global South. 

The successful candidate must have a background in social studies of technology (e.g. Science and Technology Studies, HCI, Digital Sociology, Digital Geography), and be able to demonstrate outstanding organisational and creative skills and qualitative research experience. We welcome applications from recent PhD graduates and from those close to PhD graduation, as well as from applicants with postdoctoral experience. 

This position will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 6 months. Hours of work will be part-time (18 per week).
