Description :

We are seeking to appoint a research assistant to work on a new project exploring factors predictive and associated with psychological wellbeing in transgender people following gender affirming treatment (GAT).

This project, which is led by Professor Jon Arcelus, has been developed in association with Gendered Intelligence (GI) and the Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health and it is funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). The study aims to explore factors associated with transgender people’s psychological wellbeing following medical transition. The candidate should have experience in quantitative and qualitative methodology, in order to analyse data and to interview members of the trans community. The findings will enable clinicians to improve the support available for trans people. We are particularly keen to appoint a candidate with expertise in trans related research and those with a trans life experience.

The appointee will work with the existing research team on this project, being based at the Institute of Mental Health, at the University of Nottingham and at the Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health in the city centre. The candidate may also need to travel to London for interviews as part of the recruitment will be via GI.

Candidates must have a Degree and a Master degree in psychology, sociology or medicine related discipline (or equivalent). Strong research skills (quantitative and qualitative) and experience of transgender health research would be an advantage.

This part-time post (29 hours per week) and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 20 months.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Jon Arcelus, jon.arcelus@nottingham.ac.uk or Dr Elena Nixon, elena.nixon@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
