Description :

You will be part of an interdisciplinary team that includes academics from Lancaster Environment Centre seeking to establish whether cover of soft rush has expanded over the last 20 years. Anecdotally, cover of soft rush (Juncus effusus) has expanded in upland areas and is becoming a nuisance species. We are seeking evidence to show the extent of this problem. You will conduct analysis of remotely sensed images for case study areas using a range of techniques and sources including from platforms in space (Landsat, SENTINEL) or air (LiDAR) and from aerial photographs. You will compare different approaches to identify which provides the best results. You will have excellent written and oral communication, organisational, and research skills, and a good knowledge of GIS techniques. You must have an enthusiasm for working in the field of environmental change. You should be computer literate and will ideally have some experience of writing papers and presenting at conferences.

This is a fixed term post, full time for 5 months.

Informal enquiries can be addressed to Duncan Whyatt d.whyatt@lancaster.ac.uk

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
