This post provides the opportunity to engage new communities and train them in research methods that are new to them. The PSDS is an UKRI - EPSRC National Research Facility recently established to provide access to data and to bring data science approaches to the physical sciences research communities.

To be successful you will demonstrate a sound understanding of data science applications to science and the ability to use a range of communication skills including generating and delivering training.  In addition to having a PhD or equivalent/equivalent professional qualifications and experience - you will evidence strong organisational skills.

There is also opportunity to advance the service through conducting and implementing a personal research program – this could be in the areas of data management, open data, human computer/data interfaces, artificial intelligence/machine learning or search and discovery methodologies. 

You will be working as a member of a distributed team and so collaboration management and interpersonal skills are key required characteristics and equally you must be able to operate independently when necessary. Furthermore, the position will provide the opportunity to deliver leadership in aspects of data within the academic community and to contribute to the international FAIR Data movement through the GO-FAIR initiative.

The position will be based at the University of Southampton and will require working closely with our STFC partners at their Harwell Campus and engaging and travelling around the wider UK community.
