The University of Nottingham’s Faculty of Engineering is seeking a new colleague in the area of human factors to teach human factors content in our undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses in the department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing engineering as well as undertake original research to an international standard. The successful candidate will join an institution with a strong research track record in the human factors area, particularly in the fields of transport; healthcare; education; the creative industries; manufacturing; natural environments; and urban settlements.  We are advertising this role at both assistant and associate professor level, aiming to appointment at a level appropriate to the experience of the successful candidate.

The Human Factors Research Group is a multidisciplinary, world-leading team comprising of specialists in: cognitive, physical and environmental ergonomics; architecture; urban design; building physics; psychophysics; psychology; engineering; computer science; and product design.

Core to our research is the application of human/person centred theories, methods and approaches to tackle contemporary, real world challenges faced by individuals, organisations, communities and societies, across a variety of application domains.

The Faculty is committed to creating opportunities for people from groups traditionally under-represented in the Faculty of Engineering.

We are looking for someone who can:

Lead  original research in the field of human factorsWrite proposals to develop and manage new research programsLead and support the development of human factors content in our undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses.Plan and deliver high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a ergonomics, human factors, human-computer interaction, psychology or other relevant area, preferable in an engineering context. We are looking for someone with excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information with clarity.   Candidates must be self-starting and pro-active, demonstrating an ability to work alone or in a team to meet deadlines and to prioritise tasks.  

For the Associate Professor level we are looking for an established research reputation in the area of human factors with a track record of securing grant income as principal investigator and high quality publications in peer reviewed journals.

This is a permanent, full-time post available from 1 August 2019. Job share arrangements may be considered.
