Description :

As part of an exciting new partnership between University of Nottingham, University of Strathclyde and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), we are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic organic chemist for a Research Associate/Fellow post within the research groups of Professor Hon Lam and Professor Simon Woodward based in the GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratory for Sustainable Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. This is a highly challenging project in catalytic organic chemistry and requires excellence in contemporary practical skills, preferably demonstrated by your previous publication record. The project will build on previous research from the Lam group and will focus on providing new catalytic C-C bond forming reactions designed to overcome current challenges faced by GSK in the discovery and development of candidate drug molecules.

The successful candidate will undertake the development of new catalytic methodology, chiral catalysts and ligands directed by Profs Lam and Woodward. Candidates should have experience of preparing high quality supporting data for publications and will be expected to routinely provide metric data on the sustainability performance of the reactions developed in the project.

The successful candidate will carry out the following duties:

Undertake the development of new catalytic methodology, chiral catalysts and ligands directed by Profs Lam and Woodward.Prepare high quality supporting data for publications resulting from the project.Provide metric data on the sustainability performance of the reactions developed in the project as a matter of routine.

Candidates must:

Hold a PhD (or expect their PhD to be awarded by mid-2019) in synthetic organic or catalytic chemistry.Be available to take up the post from 3 June 2019.Show demonstrated excellence and productivity in synthetic organic or catalytic chemistry.Have excellent organisational and good communication and team working skills.

Additional experience in the use of CHEM21 metrics would be useful but not vital for this post.

It is expected that the successful candidate will work closely with researchers at the University of Strathclyde and GSK, and will have an opportunity to undertake a secondment at one or both partner institutions.

This full time post is fixed-term for a period of 30 months from 3 June 2019.
