An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate in a collaborative project between The Parkside Group (TPG) based at Mitcham, Surrey and the University of Southampton. This project will embed and exploit novel technical capabilities in thermal break materials for use in aluminium windows.

The Parkside Group Limited is a British independent group which delivers innovative building envelope solutions to the construction industry.  TPG includes some of the most respected brands in the construction industry, including Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems, Axim Architectural Hardware, and Alu-Timber.  Together they deliver a unique opportunity for professionals to rely on a single source solution for architectural aluminium systems, door hardware and ventilation products.  TPG are looking to develop a new, more thermally efficient design of the thermal break for aluminium windows and doors. This is aimed at the growing residential market and should lead to reduced cost manufacturing. This would increase the adoption of aluminium in the UK residential market.

The vast majority of your time (>90%) will be spent at the company premises in Mitcham, Surrey, under the supervision of the dedicated company team with access to the skills, resources and tools required to complete the project. You will receive a minimum of 0.5 days per week supervision (excluding travelling time) from partnership, and will have access to expertise and resources from the University of Southampton.  There will be a dedicated training budget of £4,000 for you to further develop your skill.. 

You will have a Masters or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in materials science, tribology, structural engineering or a related field of science along with knowledge of CAD software. It is essential you are able to work independently and able to manage a project including meeting defined milestones.
