Description :

The University of Surrey is an international university with a world-class teaching and research profile and an enterprising spirit. Inventive and forward thinking, our heritage shows a recurring theme of doing things differently – and achieving notable results. For example, we have won four Queen’s Anniversary Prizes and were awarded Gold for our Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) submission

As a result of our new strategic plan and future vision, the School of Biosciences and Medicine in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is recruiting an exceptional individual to the following full-time academic position to continue to add to the successes that the School, Faculty and University have already had:

Teaching Fellow B for Bioscience Foundation Year

The School has a long tradition of teaching across a breadth of Bioscience disciplines from Sport and Exercise Science, Nutrition, Food Science, and Dietetics to Biochemistry and Microbiology.  Examples of our 9 undergraduate degree programmes include Biomedical Science, Biological Science and Veterinary Bioscience.

To build on this expertise within the School we are now seeking to appoint a second teaching fellow for our new Bioscience Foundation Programme commencing in October 2019.  Since this programme will prepare students for direct entry into our degree programmes, prior experience of teaching at ‘A’ level or equivalent or HE level will be essential. Applications from individuals with expertise in physiology and/or functional biology are especially welcome.

This post represents part of our planned future growth and development as a School.  If you take pride in providing high quality teaching, work to improve methods of delivery and assessment in your field of expertise and are a dynamic, forward thinking team player with a ‘can do’ attitude and an ambition to achieve personally then please get in touch.

Successful applicants will have at least a BSc in a relevant subject and substantial evidence of education in learning, teaching and assessment practices. A teaching qualification or membership of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) is highly desirable.  They will have experience within either Further Education or Higher Education, or both, and a proven track record of creativity and innovative educational practice.

In return, we offer an energetic and forward-thinking working environment with access to a variety of staff development opportunities.  You will also receive a competitive salary and a generous annual leave entitlement.  Our package includes a final salary pension scheme and discounted membership to the Surrey Sports Park.  The University is easily accessible by road and rail, and is a short distance from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Kikki Bodman-Smith, Director of Learning and Teaching (via e.frost-bridges@surrey.ac.uk), or telephone (+44 (0) 1483 686920).  For details on the benefits of working with us, and to apply on-line please visit our website: www.surrey.ac.uk/vacancies.

We acknowledge, understand and embrace diversity and the School of Biosciences and Medicine is proud to be the recipient of the Equality Challenge Unit Athena SWAN Silver award
