Laboratory Technician (071719)

The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey is a recognised world-leader in biosciences research and currently supports 4000 students in a variety of teaching environments. In the latest UK research excellence framework we were rated one of the top eight UK institutions for biosciences, health and veterinary research.

We are looking to recruit a skilled, efficient and highly motivated individual to join the technical team at the Leggett Building.  The building houses multidisciplinary labs from the Department of Nutritional Sciences, the Department of Clinical & Experimental Medicine and also the Stable Isotope Core Tech Facility.  You will work with the team; liaising with the laboratory managers and technicians to ensure the smooth, safe and efficient support of the laboratories. 

Good organisational skills and excellent attention to detail are required.   The post holder must be able to work independently and as part of a team, working with the technicians, postgraduate students, as well as academic members of staff.  Therefore strong organisational, communication skills, and a pro-active nature, are essential to the role. 

The post holder will be involved in hands-on support for the research laboratories. Responsibilities include the collection and processing of biological and chemical waste (involves manual handling), operating autoclaves, general laboratory housekeeping, training/induction of lab users and general troubleshooting.

Previous laboratory experience would be beneficial to the successful applicant although full training will be provided.   The post is an ideal introduction for anyone considering a career in lab support/services
