The Biodiscovery Institute (BDI) recently underwent a major £23M expansion to create a £100M hub that now houses 800 people, who carry out world class research in state-of-the-art facilities. The range of activities is diverse, cutting edge and inspirational. The research portfolio spans 6 major themes: 1) Taming microbes; 2) Defeating cancer; 3) Regenerative medicine; 4) Industrialising biotechnology; 5) Demystifying biomolecular complexity; 6) Pioneering therapeutics.

This creates an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, forward thinking person who is an adaptable, approachable and communicative in order to coordinate health and safety in a varied fast paced research environment.

An ability to think broadly, have a flexible approach and deliver effectively to milestones and action plans will be essential. The postholder will have skills in team working, collaboration and solo activities, coupled with a high level of self-motivation and drive.

Ultimately, the role is designed to provide advice and support for the management of Health and Safety to the Institute Director, Building Manager and BDI Occupants based upon a combination of practical and theoretical knowledge and experience. The role seeks to support compliance with relevant legislation though review, development and implementation of policies and procedures to promote a safe and healthy working environment and positive culture for staff, students and visitors. There will be opportunities for professional development.

This is a full-time (36.25 hours per week) permanent post.
