Research Associate/Fellow (Fixed-term) (MED100720)

Applications are invited for a Health Economics Research Associate/Fellow based in the School of Medicine. 

The new post will be accountable to the Professor of Health Economics, Professor Marilyn James.  Based in DRAW, they will work across the School of Medicine (SoM) and with external research partners. Experience in health economic trials is essential and experience in health economic modelling desirable. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of health economics at Nottingham. 

The post holder will have or be near to completion of a PhD in health economics or have equivalent professional experience. They will have a key role in assisting the Nottingham University Hospital Trust research teams with the application for NIHR grants and the design and execution of the health economic components of NIHR grants. The role holder will, in addition, have the opportunity to actively work on university-wide health economic studies and to gain valuable experience in the undertaking of economic evaluations and will be supervised and managed by Prof James. 

The successful candidate will work on a range of projects. These include a new EME study: CAUTI: Catheter Against Urinary Tract Infection Trial: a randomised trial of antimicrobial-impregnated urinary catheters for long-term indwelling urinary catheter users; HTA:POINT : A multi-centre randomised trial of surgery versus non-surgical splint treatment for proximal phalanx shaft finger fractures in adults; a programme grant: ROWTATE:  Multicentre Research Programme to Enhance Return to Work after Trauma. 

The full range of opportunities in economic evaluation are encompassed from project inception and design to bringing work to successful completion and analysis. The post is an ideal post for a health economist who wishes to gain career experience and a track record in publications. The candidates must have the ability to communicate well with researchers who have little or no knowledge of health economics. 

This is a fixed-term post available for one year in the first instance with the opportunity to extend.  Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours per week), however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
