Description :

Academic Registry is at the heart of innovation and improvement to the student journey here at Birmingham City University. You’ll be joining a team that comes to work to make a difference, challenges the status quo and always strives for excellence.

Academic Registry has a focus on student systems and data, and how these can be used to improve processes relating to the student lifecycle. Whether these processes are conducted internally or by our many stakeholders across BCU we want them to run as effectively as possible for the benefit of both staff and students, and to have a positive influence on student outcomes and the university’s reputation.

Academic Registry is comprised of three strands:

Student Systems & Data, with responsibility for the continued development of systems including our student records system (SITS) and our student enquiries system (SID); a portfolio of operational reports to support the annual cycle of activity; driving improvements in student data quality across the university and meeting our obligations towards statutory external returns.Student Lifecycle & Service Enhancement, with responsibility for delivering key events in the student lifecycle such as examinations and award ceremonies, student fees and funding, and working with stakeholders across the university to drive continuous enhancement to services delivered by or supported by our student systems.Timetabling, with responsibility for delivering scheduled teaching and examination timetables to students in accordance with the university’s timetabling principles, supporting the booking of rooms for non-teaching purposes, and working with faculties, schools and Estates to ensure the curriculum is delivered effectively and appropriately for our students.

As Student Systems Maintenance Officer you will play a critical role in ensuring that our student systems are configured to support the annual cycle of business, from recruitment to course administration and through to graduation.

This role complements the other roles involved in Service Enhancement by bringing technical expertise which means that our systems meet the needs of our customers involved in delivering the student lifecycle. This will involve maintaining existing functionality as well as implementing new functionality, such as complex email templates involved in automated communications, and the configuration of our student enquiries system to handle and route enquiries to the correct teams.

An understanding of how the student lifecycle is delivered at a HE institution will be helpful, as will an appreciation of the power of student systems to support it.

Preferably, you will have experience in SITS and the technical skills that allow you to confidently work with and update the system, a logical and systematic approach to problem solving, and be able to interpret user requirements and communicate to those without a technical understanding.

To apply for this position, please complete the online application and upload a copy of your CV.  Candidates are advised to remove any personal information to ensure a fair and transparent process.
