Iberian Studies is no 3 in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020. We are seeking exceptional academics whose ambitions in both research and teaching complement those of our forward-looking School.

The School of Literature and Languages is seeking to appoint a full-time Teaching Fellow (A) in Spanish to teach and contribute to the administration of programmes including UG Language modules and translation modules, institution-wide language programme (Global Graduate Award) and evening classes for the general public.

The successful candidate will be able to teach Spanish language modules from ab initio through to advanced language skills in final year as well as translation modules. In addition, the ability and willingness to offer a UG module in Spanish sociolinguistics would be highly desirable. The post holder will also be expected to support colleagues through moderating and double marking of other modules, including PGT. The post holder will be expected to undertake visits to students on PTY (Professional Training Year) in Spain, and to support the PTY tutor for Spanish.

The role will also involve supporting the Languages team more widely, through attending Open Days and UCAS Applicant Days, and taking part in Widening Participation and Outreach activities.

The successful candidate will be able to support the Languages team across the different programmes in both teaching and administrative support and will be expected to take on a significant teaching-related administrative role, such as co-ordination of Evening Language Classes.

The post holder will need to meet the standard requirements for Teaching Fellow A, and in addition have native or near-native fluency in Spanish.

Applicants must possess a master’s degree or appropriate equivalent professional qualification. A Teaching Qualification e.g. Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE or equivalent is desirable. If such a qualification has not been attained the candidate will be expected to complete the University Graduate Certificate by the end of their first year of employment with the University.
