Description :

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in dog population biology? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

In this project, you will adapt a complex, predictive model on stray dog population control strategies into an easy-to-use but accurate application for use anywhere in the world to reliably and accurately estimate dog population size, and to test the efficacy, efficiency and sustainability of different local control strategies based on variable local parameters. You will work in consultation with international animal welfare charities to ensure international and political reach of the application and translation of your research.

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) in stray dog population biology, eco-systems modelling or a closely allied discipline along with experience in creating, writing, enhancing, and running code in R. Excellent communication skills with the ability to talk to different audiences is necessary, as you will be communicating complex ideas to a range of stakeholders in the UK and overseas.

The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN (the national body that promotes gender equality in higher education), and the Faculty of Biological Sciences was awarded a bronze award in 2017.  We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees. Our Athena SWAN webpage provides more information.
