Situated in excellent facilities at our Falmer site, just five miles from Brighton’s stunning sea front and vibrant city centre, the School of Education is one of the largest providers of education and training for students teachers, teachers and other professionals in the higher education sector. Rated outstanding by Ofsted in our latest inspection (November 2018) for our early years, primary and secondary provision, we are ranked in the top 10 for education courses in England in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

With our commitment to the highest expectations and standards in education and research, we enjoy a regional, national and international reputation for the quality of our provision. Promoting creativity and innovation, and embracing the principles of equality and inclusion we are consistently successful in meeting new market demands and government initiatives at both a local and national level. Programmes with the school focus predominantly on education, learning and development.

You will be joining a successful and dynamic team who, through a continued commitment to research and teaching excellence, strive to maximise students’ potential as future specialists of their subject. We are therefore seeking to appoint a highly motivated, innovative and effective practitioner who is keen to promote academic studies in education across the school and beyond. You should be able to demonstrate a passion for teaching and students’ learning, and be able to offer a clear rationale for your pedagogy.

You will be responsible for supporting early years to develop subject knowledge and teaching skills, sharing both practical expertise and relevant scholarship with students as an early years specialist. At Senior Lecturer grade you will be expected to take on coordination and/or leadership roles within the School on arrival.

You will possess a good (normally a 1st or 2:1) undergraduate degree preferably in an early years subject area, and ideally hold a relevant postgraduate qualification (PGCert/ EYITT/PGCE/MA/PhD), an equivalent level of professional experience or evidence of a commitment to obtaining a relevant higher degree/professional qualification. You will - depending on your profile - contribute to a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and work-related programmes.

Programmes are delivered across the full calendar year and can involve some work on evenings and Saturdays.  The successful candidate will be expected to travel to partner schools and settings supporting students’ professional learning in collaboration with a range of professionals from these placements.

Due to the nature of this post a DBS check will be required.
