Graduate Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Project Manager (mKTP Associate) (HS0298)

This is an exciting opportunity for an enterprising Engineering graduate to advance their career as a Management Knowledge Transfer Partnership (mKTP) Associate. This unique role will involve close collaboration with an established industrial partner, Singleton Birch Ltd, and a specialist academic team at the University of Hull.  

Singleton Birch, is a leading independent supplier of chalk and lime-derived products in the UK.  Established in 1815, Singleton Birch primarily quarries chalk which is burnt in kilns and hydrates to make a series of calcium carbonate, calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide products.  These are sold to the steel, water treatment, sewage treatment, flue gas treatment, soil stabilisation and building products markets.  In recent years, the company has diversified into energy production via anaerobic digestion, service provision of these plants and speciality chemicals manufacturing.  The company now aims to undertake an ambitious programme of innovation to enhance the health, safety and environment culture within the business.   

This project is a Management Knowledge Transfer Partnership (mKTP), which is part of a national, Government-supported initiative, that provides graduates with fast-track career opportunities through work on challenging industrial and commercial projects supported by Innovate UK (view?https://info.ktponline.org.uk/action/search/partnership_vac.aspx?for more information).  

The aim of this KTP is to embed a capability to deliver a strategy that allows for a complete cultural shift in improving management and workforce safety, environmental and quality performance driven through sustainable organisational change.  This is an ideal opportunity for a graduate with an Engineering background to expand their knowledge and expertise into an operational management role. 

The successful candidate will be based at the Singleton Birch Lincolnshire site, but will be fully supported with expertise from the Department of Psychology and Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Hull. 

The successful candidate will benefit from extensive practical and formal training, along with the opportunity to gain specialist skills, broaden their knowledge and expertise within an industrially relevant project, and gain valuable experience from commercial and academic mentors. The Associate will also benefit from a Personal Development Budget of £4,000 to support this training. The project offers the potential to undertake a higher degree, such as an MSc by research, although this is not a requirement of the post.   

This KTP is a 24 month project but, for the right candidate, there are excellent prospects for obtaining permanent employment with Singleton Birch Ltd at the end of the project. 

As well as an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, such as Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, you will need:  

excellent time management skills for yourself and to progress the project that you will lead, to be able to effectively communicate your work and findings across all levels of the organisation,  to be able to innovate to produce new solutions that will advance the culture of the company, an interest in Human Factors and the role of people, systems and organisational culture in safety performance.  

Salary of £22,417 per annum, plus a generous associate development budget of up to £4,000.
