Placements Officer (fixed term) (CF7901)

We are looking for an passionate, motivated individual to join our lively Placement Team in the Faculty of Engineering and Design. Your focus will be supporting Architecture undergraduates who take a 3 – 6-month placement as part of their degree programme or apprenticeship. You may also be involved in supporting Engineering students looking for 12-month optional placements.

About the role

You will play a crucial role in maintaining strong professional relationships with current placement providers in an industry facing role whilst also proactively sourcing and developing opportunities to generate new placements. You will act as a point of contact for undergraduate students, academic staff and employers, dealing with enquiries and providing guidance. A major part of the role is to provide employability support to students on a one to one basis and good written English skills are essential. In addition, you will be required to deliver skills workshops and talks and must be a confident, engaging presenter to communicate to the student audience.

About you

With excellent organisational skills, you will demonstrate a good use of initiative and have the ability to multi-task and prioritise a high workload. Attention to detail and good administrative record keeping are essential. We work together as a team to achieve overall results and you will need to be a good team player. An interest in learning about and working with the architecture industry would be beneficial. This is a rewarding role supporting high achieving students at the start of their careers.

The ideal start date for the successful applicant would be early January 2021. This is a fixed term maternity cover post ending 04/01/2022. Due to the nature of the role we can only accept applications for a full-time position. The Placement Team are currently undertaking a blend of remote and on campus work. Long-term the role will be based fully on campus.

The Placements Team are embedded within the Faculty of Engineering and Design working closely with academic colleagues and professional services staff. We collaborate with both the careers service and placement teams across the University.
