Description :

The post of Governance and Project Manager (Governance Review) is an entirely new role, with responsibility for project managing a root and branch review of the documents which form the University's governance framework. The review will take into account major changes in the regulatory landscape for higher education as well as changes - both implemented and planned - at the University itself. It is a great opportunity to contribute to the creation of a clear, easy-to-use, supple and durable framework that meets the needs of students and staff.

You will need to work at a senior level across the institution to understand the needs of a diverse set of stakeholders, mediate between them, translate them into formal language, and work to ensure acceptance of the results within the University community. You will also be a key member of a busy small team, working with colleagues to ensure that governance at the University runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis. You will deputise as necessary for the Head of Strategic Governance and will support the University Council and its committees as they provide assurance and robust challenge to the University Executive. This involves a wide range of tasks - from drafting reports to supporting meetings - with an emphasis on continuous improvement and the need to set high standards for the institution as a whole.

The ability to operate sensitively within a complex organisation with tenacity and initiative is integral to the role. You will need to combine an eye for detail with clear-sighted strategic vision.

This is a part-time role (29.2 hours per week) for a fixed-term period of 2 years.

The Office of Strategic Governance was created in 2019 in response to the Halpin review of governance at the University of Bath. It provides independent support to the University governing body (Council) and its committees, with a view to enabling Council to offer more robust challenge and assurance to the University Executive. The office is led by the Head of Strategic Governance, who is supported by a governance manager and an administrative assistant. To ensure its complete independence, the team reports to the Chair of Council.

The University mission is to deliver world-class research and teaching, educating our graduates to become future leaders and innovators, and benefiting the wider population through our research, enterprise and influence.

We value, promote and celebrate inclusion, challenging discrimination and putting equality, diversity and belonging at the heart of everything we do. We aim to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged. We truly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds will lead to a better environment for our employees and students, creating a learning environment and organisational culture that enhances health and wellbeing across our community. We are very proud to have recently received Ambassadors for Autism certification and are an accredited Disability Confident Leader (level 3); committed to building disability confidence and supporting disabled staff.
