Would you like to join a leading institute for theoretical, experimental and analytical research into powertrain systems in the UK?

The Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS) at the University of Bath is recruiting two Research Assistants/Research Associates. The new roles will support research work for the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC)/Innovate UK funded Trident project.

The Trident project aims to deliver the next generation of air handling solutions for Diesel, Natural Gas and Fuel Cell applications in heavy duty vehicles. Conducted with major industry partners, IAAPS will work on the characterisation, modelling and systems optimisation tasks. You will assist in the delivery of the project work packages and undertake the research activity under the guidance of the principal investigator.

The research will involve both experimental and simulation activities. Experimental work will include the design, specification and implementation of new test facilities with advanced measurement techniques. The modelling work will include both 3D computational fluid dynamics and systems modelling. You will also be expected to liaise directly with the industrial partners over the course of the project, reporting the project outcomes in technical reports and academic publications.

We expect applicants to possess a suitable degree in relevant subject area and have research experience. Successful applicants will possess: 

Experience of creating dynamic models of gasoline engine and designing test stands for thermal testing of engine friction and emission formation, data development of engine hardware and engine design. Experience of involvement in collaborative research programmes such as Innovate UK or APC consortia would also be beneficial. Self-motivation and possess project management and technical communication skills.PhD degree in subject area of direct relevance for the project, or an equivalent professional qualification and significant relevant experience where applicable. (Research Associate applicants only)

There are 2 positions available working full time (36.5 hours per week) and are being offered on a fixed term contract basis for a maximum period of 36 months. We also welcome applications from candidates seeking a part-time post.

We require either a Research Assistant and/or a Research Associate for this position. Salary for a Research Assistant is £26,715 rising to £32,817. Salary for a Research Associate is £33,797 rising to £40,322.
