Description :

Staffordshire University is on a journey to become the foremost modern higher education institution in the UK, with an international reputation for excellence, and we are looking for inspirational and effective people to take us to the next stage.

Many of our students come from areas with low rates of participation in higher education and we continually strive to ensure the courses we offer meet the needs of people and employers. We are expanding our non-traditional, flexible study options, particularly in apprenticeships serving the public sector.

You can join us at a time when we begin the next step of our transformation journey. The new £40m Catalyst Building will deliver 6,500 new apprentices in the next decade, boosting both the local and national economy. The development of our offer to new academic areas and geographic locations will see us expand our reach and make an innovative offer to a new generation of students.

We are a university of and for our community: local, national and global. If you share our values and have the skills to deliver our vision, we want to hear from you.

We are seeking a dedicated expert professional who can develop an important, new community service, which will ensure effective care and support for students within our community, outside of normal office hours. It is expected the hours will be 6.00pm-4.00am, although there will need to be flexibility. The working hours are likely to differ during the initial induction stage.

The post holder will coordinate the delivery of professional, out of hours advice, support and response at Staffordshire University. This will include the initial response to vulnerable adults, concerned parents and staff and also the subsequent follow up with external agencies and university support services. Working in close partnership with our Campus Security Team, they will act as a first point of contact for any welfare, wellbeing or health needs.  The postholder will be required to quickly understand and interpret complex and challenging situations, and then work to either resolve the specific issue or provide relevant information and advice or referral.

The postholder will be responsible for the development, planning and delivery of the Residence Life social and pastoral programme and events aimed at encouraging student wellbeing, engagement and community development. They will also be allocated a team of Residence Life Mentors who they will manage, mentor and inspire.

Due to the community-based nature of this role, a full UK driving licence and access to a road worthy vehicle is essential as the successful candidate will be required to travel to and work within our student accommodation blocks at College Court in Shelton and Stafford Court in Stafford. The post holder will be part of a rotating shift pattern so a flexible approach to work patterns is also essential.

The person we are looking for should have a sincere interest and understanding of the needs of students, and be able to communicate effectively with residents, university staff and external bodies.

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
