Description :

Staffordshire University is on a journey to become the foremost modern higher education institution in the UK, with an internationalreputation for excellence, and we are looking for inspirational and effective people to take us to the next stage.

In 2018 we broke into the World University rankings for the first time and were named as a top 50 UK university by the Guardian. The quality of our student experience has placed us in the top 10 for teaching quality in the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and in 2019  we achieved a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Many of our students come from areas with low rates of participation in higher education and we continually strive to ensure the courses we offer meet the needs of people and employers. We are expanding our non-traditional, flexible study options, particularly in apprenticeships serving the public sector.

You can join us at a time when we begin the next step of our transformation journey. The new £40m Catalyst Building will deliver 6,500 new apprentices in the next decade, boosting both the local and national economy. The development of our offer to new academic areas and geographic locations will see us expand our reach and make an innovative offer to a new generation of students.

We are a university of and for our community: local, national and global. If you share our values and have the skills to deliver ourvision, we want to hear from you.

We are currently recruiting to a number of Lectureship/Senior Lectureship posts in Policing, based within the University’s Institute of Policing. During 2019 we announced a major new partnership to deliver police constable education and training for West Midlands, Staffordshire, West Mercia and Warwickshire police forces.

Post-holders will join our team to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in our Policing courses, specifically in relation to our Policing Apprenticeship and Degree Holder programmes, as well as providing support to other Policing programmes as required.

We are seeking individuals with knowledge and/or research experience across broad specialisms including core Policing concepts and skills and/or Criminology. We are particularly keen in individuals with expertise in Digitally Enabled Crimes, Road Policing, Intelligence and Security, and Policing Research, although we welcome applications from people with other specialisms too. Whether you have developed your expertise through an academic route or with one of the UK’s Police Forces we want to hear from you.

You will have a commitment to developing and delivering high-quality teaching, have excellent communication skills and an ability to work effectively as part of a high performing team of academic staff.

The University’s Institute of Policing sits within our School of Law, Policing and Forensics, a unique combination of disciplines that is ideally placed to respond to today’s justice system. You will work closely with colleagues from other academic disciplines including law, criminology, forensic science and others across the wider university community.

We have a significant number of posts available for Lecturers and Senior Lecturers (to be determined on appointment, dependent on experience). We can also offer flexible work patterns including part-time hours, home-working and remote working.

Due to the nature of the Police programmes, the successful candidates will be required to travel across the West Midlands Region (covering the four police forces – Staffordshire Police, West Midlands Police, West Mercia Police, and Warwickshire Police) in order to deliver material. Therefore, mobility is required for this position.

In return for your dedication we have a competitivebenefits package available:

Competitive incremental rates of Pay

Starting from 29 days Annual Leave (depending on job grade) plus 11 days Bank Holiday and Discretionary days

Excellent Pension Scheme

Access to continued professional and personal development

An opportunity to become part of the wider University community
