You will be employed at the Department of Interdisciplinary Social Science of the faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Utrecht University. The position comprises teaching and research. Candidates with a particular interest in working with an interdisciplinary team of graduate students, faculty, and societal partners on projects aimed at contributing to understanding and addressing contemporary social issues in the domain of social policy and public health are encouraged to apply. You will be teaching in the Bachelor's programme of Interdisciplinary Social Science and the international one-year Master's programmes Social Policy and Public Health. Our teaching crosses disciplinary boundaries of fields such as social and health psychology, sociology, public health and health promotion.


The department's research activities are organized in three programmes: 'Migration, Cultural Diversity, and Ethnic Relations', 'Social Policy and Public Health', and 'Youth in Changing Cultural Contexts'. Your research will be part of the Social Policy and Public Health (SPPH) group (supervised by Prof John de Wit). We have a diverse, collegial, interdisciplinary team, including a large number of PhD candidates, including external PhD candidates who undertake a PhD alongside their work as academic professionals. Our research group has extensive collaborations with national and international academic and societal partners, and we also participate in government and non-government advisory committees. The Social Policy and Public Health group participates in the UU strategic themes Institutions for Open Societies, Pathways to Sustainability and Dynamics of Youth. 

The position involves 70% teaching activities and 30% research time (preferably starting in April 2021). Core activities include:

contributing to the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Interdisciplinary Social Science; carrying out and supervising research within the scope of the research domain of Social Policy and Public Health; contributing to the acquisition of (substantial) external research funding; knowledge translation and communicating scientific findings to various groups.
