Description :

Are you an experienced technician looking for a challenge?  Do you have a background in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Structural Biology or Biochemistry?  Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

This is a 2-year fixed term post (50% FTE) funded by Academy of Medical Sciences Springboard Award to Dr Qian Wu to assist the DNA repair Team at the University of Leeds.

You will be supporting a team of 2-3 scientists in DNA cloning techniques, recombinant protein production and purification of proteins for structural biology and biophysical studies. The lab uses a range of techniques, including recombinant protein production in insect cells and E. coli, cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, and biophysical characterisation of protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions.

You should have a degree, BTEC higher level or equivalent in the fields Molecular and Cellular Biology, Structural Biology or Biochemistry, with experience in DNA cloning and general molecular biology techniques, cell and tissue culture techniques (mammalian or insect cells), and/or recombinant protein production. In your role as laboratory technician you will work closely with other research scientists within the group. You should therefore be highly motivated, organised, and able to communicate and collaborate as part of a team. Experience with molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g. cloning, mammalian and /or insect cell tissue culture) are essential. Past experience in a research laboratory and publications are highly desirable.

The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN (the national body that promotes gender equality in higher education), and the Faculty of Biological Sciences was awarded a Silver award in 2020.  We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees.
