Description :

The Dependable Intelligent Systems Research Group in Computer Science invites applications for a new Research Associate position. The appointed Researcher will join the group to work in the "Safety and Security of Multi-Robot Systems" (SESAME) H2020 project. The project is undertaken by a consortium of 17 organisations, which include leading research institutions and robotic manufacturers in Europe.

Multi-Robot Systems (MRS) comprise distributed and interconnected robotic teams and swarms that use collaborative and social intelligence to carry out tasks beyond the competency of a single robot. There are unresolved technological challenges including the openness, uncertainty, variability, and interplay of safety and security in such systems. SESAME addresses these challenges through a model-based, intelligent approach for the systematic and largely automated engineering of dependable MRS. SESAME develops a concept of Digital Dependability Identities (DDIs), i.e. modular, composable and executable specifications of dependability for components and systems with key application in cyber-physical, robotic, autonomous, and open systems of systems.

The University of Hull leads the R&D work on safety and contributes to work on security where the Dependable Intelligent Systems (DEIS) research group led by Prof. Papadopoulos makes substantial contributions to the international state-of-the-art. The project is locally managed by Prof. Papadopoulos (SESAME PI) who will supervise the Researcher within the DEIS research group. The DEIS group has a long track record in the area and will provide an assisting environment where the Researcher will be able to achieve the project objectives.  The Researcher will be contributing to several research activities of the SESAME project. These include:

• The authoring of a methodology for safety analysis adapted to multi-robot systems. The methodology will be supported by DDIs

• The elicitation of requirements for DDIs,  the specification of new DDIs using model-based techniques, the automatic synthesis of DDIs, and their execution during operation.

• Joint research with partners on co-engineering of safety and security

• Assisting industrial partners in the application of results

The Researcher should ideally have the following skills:

• Post-doctoral research experience on Systems Dependability

• Excellent software engineering skills.

• Experience with software tools for Model-based Engineering and Safety Analysis.

To discuss this role informally, please contact Professor Yiannis Papadopoulos at y.i.papadopoulos@hull.ac.uk. Only on-line applications are accepted. Please include your CV.

The University of Hull is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity in every aspect of our recruitment processes.
