The University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Medical Sciences Course Lead for the Foundation to Medicine Programme. Applications are invited for the post of Assistant Professor - based at University Hospitals of Burton and Derby NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Derby Hospital Centre, Derby.

The Foundation for Medicine course (one year of a 6-year programme) has the aim of increasing student diversity in Medicine, the purpose of the course is to bring students to the relevant A-level standard in biology and chemistry needed for studying Medicine at Nottingham as well as stretching them beyond A level to demonstrate the relevance of the subjects to medicine. The Foundation to Medicine course is of considerable strategic importance to the University.

You will need to have excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers, using high level skills and a range of media. You will have a track record in the design and delivery of high quality and up-to-date course materials as well as the ability to devise, advise on and manage learning and or research programmes using a range of delivery techniques and technologies to inspire and engage students.

You will advocate for the Foundation into Medicine students, to ensure they transition to 5-year Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) at Nottingham well, are celebrated via graduation, and that their performance is reviewed and followed.

You will work with and under the direction of the Director of Undergraduate Studies, to ensure the effective development, organisation, management, and delivery of the year 1 of the Foundation to Medicine programme. You will provide a consistently excellent standard of teaching and support for student learning that is underpinned by scholarship related to the discipline.

You must have a PhD or equivalent in relevant subject area and experience in leading the design of teaching and educational programmes in medicine, assessment techniques and methods, the extent of which will determine the level of the appointment.

This is a full time, permanent position. Job share arrangements may be considered.
