Applications are invited for one part-time PBL facilitator post available immediately to join the existing team based at University of Nottingham Medical School, Derby (on the site of the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton). The Teaching associate are responsible for leading and mentoring PBL groups, providing student guidance and pastoral support. 

We offer a 4-year Graduate Entry Medical (GEM) degree and students spend the first 18 months studying the early years curriculum in Derby. At the heart of the course are small group problem based learning (PBL) cases, around which all other learning is centred. PBL provides the basis of integrating clinically-focused medical sciences, professional development and clinical skills. Facilitation of PBL is a core and important activity within the Division to ensure students set appropriate learning goals and work effectively as a team to achieve their potential as future doctors. 

You will be responsible for facilitation of PBL (3 sessions per week for each cohort of students) and further activities in support of the course and student experience. PBL facilitation due to COVID-19 will be delivered virtually via MS Teams. 

You should have experience as a healthcare professional, or related educator and have a degree or equivalent in a relevant healthcare profession (health or life sciences or cognate discipline). You must have excellent communication and organisational skills in fostering student learning, a commitment to medical education and developing future doctors and a willingness to adopt the Ethos and Principles of the School of Medicine. Candidates should have experience of one or more of the following: teaching healthcare students, working with small groups in education/training and Inter-professional education experience.

This is a fixed-term post for a period of three years. This is a fractional role, hours of work are part time, term time only. From August to February (20 weeks), 14.5 hours per week working Tuesdays and Fridays. From February to June (16 weeks), 7.25 hours per week, working half days on Tuesdays and Fridays.
