Are you looking for an opportunity to help train the leaders of tomorrow and champion research that tackles global challenges?

The University of Bath is one of the most innovative and high performing Universities in the UK surrounded by beautiful countryside, and the City of Bath with its historic charm and social activity only a short distance away, creating an excellent environment in which to work. Home to over 19,000 students from 147 different countries, Bath has a reputation for both research and teaching excellence. Consistently ranked in the Top 10 in the UK and with its strong international profile, the University has an ambitious agenda for the future.

The University is looking to appoint four Head of Philanthropy positions within the Department of Development and Alumni Relations, who will each be responsible for their own theme. These include Student Support – providing opportunities to train tomorrow’s leaders and innovators – as well as our three primary research areas: Sustainability; Health & Wellbeing; and Digital.

The University is aware of its responsibility to contribute to the global good and these ‘Bath Beacons’ are all at the heart of the greatest global challenges and opportunities of our time. Key to achieving our ambition is generating increased research income to enable us to innovate, explore new areas and invest in new infrastructure to tackle the most profound and challenging problems.

The department is currently on a significant growth path and there has never been a more exciting time to join. The Head of Philanthropy roles will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies for pipeline of student support focussed prospects and priorities (£250k+). The postholders will identify, cultivate and secure major gifts from High Net Worth individuals and companies in the UK and internationally, including alumni and non-alumni.

You will identify and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 of the University’s prospective donors in the UK and overseas, cultivating a relationship between them and the University. Working closely with senior colleagues, you will help shape the strategic direction for fundraising at the University and ensure there is a portfolio of sophisticated and effective University projects and initiatives, prioritised by the University and suitable for principal gift fundraising. You will develop new fundraising audiences locally, nationally, and internationally, including HNW non-alumni.

The ideal candidates will have a proven track record of raising 5, 6, and 7 figure charitable gifts, managing the process from cultivation to stewardship, with experience of taking strategic ideas and delivering operational reality. You will be able to translate complex themes and projects for a lay audience, and come with expertise in developing and maintaining policies and procedures – ideally gift acceptance and data protection. Importantly you will be highly effective at working as part of a team, and can guide and influence a range of stakeholders, in particular senior-level prospects, donors, and colleagues. If this sounds like you, we would very much like to hear from you.

The University of Bath is committed to achieving an educational and working environment which provides equality of opportunity and freedom from unlawful discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, gender, marital status, disability, religious or political beliefs, age, sexual orientation or offending background.

Although based at the University, a balance of home and office working is available.
