About the role 

Staffordshire University Estates & Commercial Services department are currently recruiting for a Design & Commissioning Manager – Capital Projects 

Reporting to the Assistant Director - Capital Development & Project Delivery, the Design and Commissioning Manager will take the lead role in the design and project management of the University’s capital projects across a mixed-use Estate portfolio of research and teaching facilities, student residences, social and hospitality space, sports facilities and commercial space.  

To lead on the commissioning, briefing and management of external consultants appointed to work on capital projects. 

As a key member of the Estates Projects Team, the role will provide technical advice and guidance into a wide variety of projects and initiatives, working with both in-house teams and external consultants. 

The role demands experience of good sustainability practice, reducing carbon in design, construction and use and working towards Zero Net Carbon objectives on all projects where practicable. 

Educated to degree level in Architecture or allied profession with professional qualifications and a member of ARB, RIBA, RICS (preferred). 

Minimum of 5 years’ post professional qualification experience and experience of successfully leading a design team of professional staff in a design consultancy practice or property services organisation. 

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experienced in preparing, analysing and presenting complex information to a range of audiences and stakeholders effectively using a variety of mediums.
