Description :

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in Computational Chemistry? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?

We are seeking a Research Fellow in Computational Materials Chemistry to deliver cutting-edge research in the modelling of novel metal and metal/support nano-catalysts for sustainable energy applications. The project builds on recent work in the group of Professor Nora de Leeuw and is in collaboration with a consortium of research groups in Southern Africa.

Metal nanoparticles or supported metal thin films from the platinum group of metals are excellent catalysts for a range of important catalytic processes. However, these metals are rare and expensive, and it is important to identify alternatives that are based on readily available, non-toxic materials. The project will seek to design and identify suitable new catalysts for the catalytic production of synthetic fuels, e.g., using CO2 as a source in the reverse water-gas shift reaction, or clean routes to hydrogen production.

Holding a PhD in Computational Chemistry, you will have a background in the simulation of the structures and properties of metal nanoparticles, metal/liquid and metal/organic-inorganic interfaces, the calculation of surface reactivity and adsorption processes, and the elucidation of catalytic mechanisms and pathways.

We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
