Description :

Lancaster University has a world-class reputation as a centre for excellence in teaching and research. It is top 10 in The Complete University Guide 2024 and is highly ranked in each of the UKs major university league tables.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to contribute to a project on ‘Ocean Justice and the Blue Economy’ (funded by The Leverhulme Trust) working with the PI,â¯Dr Celine Germond-Duret. The post is funded for 36 months full-time running from spring 2024. The project aims to investigate coastal communities’ understanding of ocean justice within the blue economy and combines desk-based research with fieldwork, using participatory research methods.

This is an excellent opportunity to play an integral role on a research project which aims at filling a knowledge gap on the conceptualisation and practice of ocean justice by putting the voice and concerns of coastal communities at the centre of reflections and aspirations. You will have interest and experience in the areas of ocean sustainability, marine policy, coastal communities, environmental and social justice and should have knowledge and experience with the use of qualitative research methods. You will be expected to conduct fieldwork in the UK and abroad. You will also be expected to contribute to the writing of academic outputs.

The Research Associate will be based in the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion (PPR). We are a vibrant and diverse department based in Lancaster University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. PPR was formed in 2010 by merging three subjects – Politics and International Relations, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. It’s the only department of its kind in the UK, and a great place to study and research.

Informal enquiries about this job are welcomed, and should be addressed to the project PI: Dr Celine Germond-Duret,â¯c.germond-duret@lancaster.ac.uk.
