The School of Ocean and Earth Science seeks to provide a better understanding of our dynamic planetary system and address key societal challenges in the ocean and Earth sciences.

ISAR is an Infrared Sea-surface-temperature Autonomous Radiometer developed at the School of Ocean & Earth Science. The instruments are primarily used for validation of satellite sea surface temperature data. More information can be found at www.isar.org.uk

This post, based at the Waterfront Campus, National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS), will support those aims by providing specialist electronic engineering support to the ISAR project.

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the post holder will provide support by developing, constructing, testing and calibrating a range of instruments and electronics. In addition, a small proportion of time will be allocated to assisting with instrument installation in various locations including aboard ships of opportunity.

The post holder will be resourceful in the delivery of support and have good communication skills. They must have well developed analytical and problem-solving skills in the field of electronics/instrumentation, with good computing and basic mechanical skills.

You will have skill level equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3, or equivalent, in Electronic or Instrument Engineering, or related subject, with experience acquired in a relevant technical role. Experience of firmware development is desirable. Training and job shadowing will be provided for the successful candidate.

This is a full time permanent position. Part time (≥0.6 FTE) may be considered.
