This role will be based on the University campus with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner.   We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

We are seeking a design specialist to support HELIX, a newly crafted space on campus dedicated to accelerating innovation in digital learning at the University. Open since October 2023, this new space offers staff and student access to innovative technologies ranging from a virtual reality classroom to a fully equipped makerspace as well as professional grade video production facilities and access to creative and enterprise opportunities.

You will play an instrumental role in supporting our community innovate by helping users to bridge the gap between innovative technology and excellent education. Utilising your design thinking skills, you will offer practical support to guide users to experiment and incorporate innovation technologies into the curriculum to meaningfully enhance learning.

With hands-on practical support, you will empower our diverse community excel in utilising innovative technologies in learning, with a particular focus on our makerspace and prototyping technologies. You will also keep an eye on the horizon, drawing in ideas from outside the space to influence and inspire innovative activities.

As an ambassador for the space, your enthusiasm and passion for innovation and experimentation will be infectious, inspiring our community and enabling them to draw the best value from technologies.

We are seeking a specialist in design thinking and prototyping, ideally with experience of practical applications through makerspace environments. As this is a new role, you will have the opportunity to develop the role to meet the needs as the space evolves.

You will report to the HELIX Innovation Space Manager with a close relationship with the Innovation Technologies Specialist and the Senior Community Development Manager plus our team of student Innovation Partners. This role will require evening and weekend work on a rota with other team members.
