Description :

Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts at Lancaster University is seeking to enhance its already strong national and international profile of excellence, and is expanding as part of a programme of investment by the University by appointing a new Senior Lecturer in Design (People, Products, Places).

You should have a research interest in design for people, products or places including subjects such as architecture; behavioural change; product design; urban design, or design areas related to cities. You will be expected to play a leading role in developing new Masters courses or modules, especially in regard to theory and practice curricula in design broadly interpreted in terms of the technological, economic, social and/or environmental facets of people, products and places; and to develop collaborative research networks both within, and beyond the University.

You should be able to demonstrate a strong research profile in design for people, products or places that complements our existing strengths in design theory, design management and strategy, service design, product design, digital design, and design for sustainability. You will be a member of the research centre ImaginationLancaster, and you will be expected to pursue a research agenda and produce outputs at a level appropriate for submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 and beyond. You will be expected to contribute to ImaginationLancaster's reputation and development with relevant research grants.

We encourage a wide and diverse range of applications and are open to broad interpretations of the role of design in the 21st century.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor Nick Dunn, Executive Director of ImaginationLancaster: nick.dunn@lancaster.ac.uk or to Professor Judith Mottram, Director of Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts: judith.mottram@lancaster.ac.uk. Tel: 01524 594395
