Description :

You will join our Experimental Fluid Mechanics Research Laboratory  within the Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics (AFM) Research Group at the University of Southampton. The project that you will be involved in is aimed at understanding the turbulent flow over heterogeneous rough surfaces as well as the interaction between freestream turbulence and turbulent boundary layers by carrying out detailed experiments in wind and water facilities. There will also be opportunities to work on other projects as well as supervise graduate students working on topics in experimental fluid mechanics including turbulent boundary layers, flow control, aeroacoustics, atmospheric flows, Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) applications, and diagnostics development.

The AFM research group is comprised of experts in theoretical, computational and experimental fluid mechanics and our aim is to provide an environment in which these different approaches can be combined and focused on particular topics of practical importance. You will join a vibrant team of other postdoctoral researchers and graduate students working in different areas of fluid mechanics ranging from environmental flows to biomedical applications.

It is essential you have or are close to completing a PhD in turbulent shear flows*. Experience with experimental fluid mechanics work is critical and knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication of models etc. is desirable. Strong communication and language skills, as evidenced by publications and presentations are also essential.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

Please contact Professor Bharathram Ganapathisubramani (G.Bharath@soton.ac.uk) for further details about the position.
