Description :

The University of Surrey is a global university with a world-class research profile and an enterprising spirit. Inventive and forward-thinking, its heritage shows a recurring theme of going its own way, doing things differently – and achieving notable results.

Guildford School of Acting (GSA) is situated within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and is one of the UK’s leading conservatoires for specialised and intensive vocational training and innovative performance research. Established in 1935, GSA enjoys national and international renown as a leading conservatoire for performer training. We are arguably the world’s leading centre of excellence for musical theatre training. The School has a diverse and vibrant community of performers, performance makers, creative practitioners and technicians graduating from its vocational training and research-led programmes each year. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join the Departments of Musical Theatre and Dance, Choreography & Movement.

These departments contain seven programmes; Foundation Musical Theatre; BA Dance, BA Musical Theatre; BA Actor Musician, MA Musical Theatre, a pathway in Musical Theatre Creation in the MA Creative Practice and Direction and a new two-year MFA Musical Theatre, which is the first in the UK.

The Musical Theatre Department’s graduate employment record is unmatched, with alumni in almost every West End musical along with roles in TV, film, national tours and with international alumni performing around the world.

We are seeking a dynamic dance practitioner who will contribute to the ongoing development of vocational learning, practice and scholarship at GSA. The successful candidate is likely to have an established track record in dance, particularly within the Musical Theatre industry as a performer or choreographer, or have considerable conservatoire experience and have recognised vocational teaching qualifications in dance (RAD, ISTD etc.). The candidate will be skilled in teaching at least two of the three major dance disciplines (ballet, jazz, tap) and is also expected to have knowledge and experience of academic processes required for the training performers in a conservatoire environment and be able to lead workshop projects and/or to choreograph. As a new colleague at GSA you will join a thriving creative community, working with inspiring colleagues and students.
