Description :

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in experimental design and complex liquids? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

The University of Leeds is working in collaboration with the Universities of Birmingham and Edinburgh and the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), to establish a capability that will deliver a novel research infrastructure to assist the UK formulation industry in the scale up and manufacture of complex liquid products. This will be initially housed at the University of Birmingham before being transferred at the end of the project to CPI’s National Formulation Centre (NFC) where it will be available as an open-access capability.

The role of Leeds in this project, PROSPECT CL (Proving of Real wOrld Scaleable PrEdiCTive tools and technologies for Complex Liquids) will be two-fold. Firstly, to develop and implement optimal experimental design techniques on the experimental rig, to demonstrate how experiments can be performed more effectively with a particular focus on reducing the number of experiments. Secondly to provide state of the art sensor technology and associated process analytics and data fusion methodology thereby, expanding the availability of predictive tools and technologies for use in liquid formulation by UK industry.  You will work with a team of scientists from Leeds, Birmingham and Edinburgh Universities, the NFC and with scientists and process engineers from leading UK companies.

Holding a first degree and PhD (or close to completion) in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or a related discipline, you will have a strong background in design of experiments, process analytics and process and analytical data modelling. You will also have a creative, enthusiastic approach to research and a flair for collaborative working.
