Description :

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Systems Developer to join the Business Systems Team at the Hull York Medical School.

Based predominantly at the University of York campus, the Business Systems Team integrate corporate systems and develop bespoke applications that provide staff and students with facilities to gather, manage and utilise a wide range of data in support of its aims and objectives.

The primary focus of the role will be to provide senior technical leadership on new and existing development projects. As such, this is very much a hands-on senior role, which will include direct line management of a small development team.

Examples of projects you would work on and provide technical leadership for include:

•Overhauling our complex assessment systems

•Modifications to our bespoke Identity Management System

•Integrating data from university and third-party systems and creating Management Information reporting tools

•Timetabling and learning space management

•Managing user account creation workflows

Some of the key skills required are:

•ASP.Net MVC, C#

•Designing web services

•Designing relational databases (MSSQL)

•HTML, XML, Javascript, jQuery

•Practical experience of development best practice

•Experience of architecting real-time data integration

It's important that you are able to quickly understand business processes, and that you can use this knowledge to connect people with existing services, and/or to develop new applications where required.

We are currently looking to move some significant applications from outsourced development to either in-house development, or to third-party tools so an aptitude for transitioning and improving existing applications would be ideal. A passion for improving working practices, a love of clean code, unit testing, continuous integration, Agile, and familiarity with terms such as YAGNI would all be an advantage.

The post is full-time (37 hours per week) and available immediately. It is anticipated that interviews will be held on Tuesday 17th October 2017.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Paul Scott, Interim Learning Enhancement and Systems Manager, 01904 321750, paul.scott@hyms.ac.uk.

The University of York is committed to promoting equality and diversity
