Your new role

As a Management Accountant you will be part of an 8 strong team within the FP&A function reporting into the Head of Financial Planning & Reporting. The focus of the team is to provide University wide robust financial management information including accurate forecasting, analysis, reporting and budgeting which will be used to inform fact-based decision making which will directly impact the University’s financial sustainability.

Working closely with the Business Finance Partner and key stakeholders, you will be responsible for the preparation, review and analysis of monthly management accounts, annual budget setting and quarterly forecasting for your given areas. You will be responsible for all financial reports pertaining to your business area and provide detailed variance analysis, reviewing accounts with key stakeholders to understand main drivers. This will require good communication with finance and non-finance colleagues with whom you will need to maintain and build strong relationships. In addition you will actively seek improvement opportunities in processes and reporting, and take a proactive approach to problem solving.

What you’ll need to succeed

You will be qualified or part qualified and actively studying CCAB/CIMA with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, within public or private sector, and have an intermediate working knowledge of Excel. Higher education exposure would be a plus, but not a necessity.

You should have previous experience of reporting and presenting concise financial information, and building effective lasting relationships with both finance and non-finance professionals alike at all levels. There will be a high volume of academic and stakeholder engagement, therefore you should have the ability to communicate to a very high level, both written and verbal, with a further focus on being inquisitive, articulate, and empathetic.

You should have confidence within your own ability, and work load, and be skilled at planning and organising your time to ensure your work is delivered to a high standard within the required timescales. Your approach should be proactive and flexible and you should be able to work without day to day supervision and identify tasks to delegate to ensure the most efficient use of team resources. You will be part of a team that have a strong team spirit and a can do attitude towards helping each other.
