The University has a bold and ambitious Strategic Plan for the period 2016-2020. Central to this plan is the University’s intent to increase the quality, scale and scope of its research and enterprise activities. 

We are now seeking to appoint a new Director to lead our Graduate School at this exciting time. The appointed individual will have the opportunity to shape the future of the Graduate School by developing, obtaining approval for, and implementing a new strategy for the University’s future PGR provision.

The Graduate School was established in 2002 and currently functions as a central hub for all research students, with physical space and facilities for the use of PGR students and a team of dedicated administrative staff.

Reporting to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research, Enterprise and Marketing), the Director of the Graduate School will be responsible for leading on the development and implementation of the University’s strategy for PGR provision. The appointed individual will lead and manage the Graduate School, ensuring successful and efficient service delivery. The post holder will develop and maintain robust horizon scanning mechanisms, and will effectively identify and manage opportunities and risks. The post holder will ensure that opportunities offered by new technologies are exploited and will work with colleagues to establish a sector-leading digital presence for the Graduate School.

We are looking for an outstanding individual with experience of dynamic leadership, the ability to develop effective working relationships both within the University and externally, and a strong commitment to excellence and innovation. You will have an excellent understanding of postgraduate study and the higher education policy environment. You will have the ability to contribute to a vibrant and exciting research environment, where talent is developed and where high levels of completion and publication are achieved.

As a member of the PVC (Research, Enterprise, and Marketing)’s leadership group you will become part of a high-performing and ambitious team. You will be comfortable working to targets and delivering to tight deadlines.

The post is available as a 3-year fixed-term 0.6 FTE contract.
