As part of the School of Visual Communication, and with strong entrepreneurial links, the University hosts regular industry events (portfolio surgeries, international speakers, Varoom Lab conferences) and heralds award-winning students. Our robust links with International Universities enable us to work within diverse educational and social contexts, particularly across East Asia. We wish to appoint a dynamic and inspiring Lecturer to join our rapidly growing undergraduate Illustration course. The University wishes to appoint a pioneering, fresh-thinking and inspiring individual who shows a passion for their work. Able to contribute to lectures, studio-based teaching, and theoretical delivery. We are looking for a candidate with an established practice within the field of illustration. Knowledge and experience of animation is a distinct advantage, as a fast developing and popular aspect of our course. Experience in Narrative and Sequential Illustration, Children’s Book Illustration, and wider publishing knowledge is highly desirable. The candidate should have a solid grounding in the world of commercial illustration to support this. We are seeking to appoint someone who is energetic and committed, who will contribute positively to our course by developing students’ analogue and digital drawing techniques, and animation skills. They will be expected to teach across a range of established Illustration modules, and contribute specialist workshops to enhance the curriculum and subject area. The role will operate within a fast changing industry, and there will be opportunities to increase collaboration across the School and with key partners within Birmingham City University.
