Description :

The University of Surrey is an ambitious, research-led organization. We are committed to research excellence and to the application of our research for the benefit of society through our enterprising and forward-thinking spirit. The University was named the Times and Sunday Times University of the Year 2016 and is set in a beautiful campus half an hour’s journey from the centre of London.

The School of Psychology has a long-standing reputation for its vibrant and supportive research and teaching environment. The School has a strong track record of innovation in Psychology, from the discovery of the McGurk effect, to the first Centre for Environmental Psychology, the shaping of cross-European approaches to food labeling, changing educational approaches to national identity, and the ongoing development of mobile neuro-assessment. The School is ranked 8th in the Guardian UK University Guide 2017 reflecting its high quality student experience. It was one of the founding UK providers of Clinical and Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Doctorates and its innovative Masters Programmes offer further study to Surrey’s high calibre Psychology graduates. The School currently houses 500+ UG students, 100+ Masters and 150+ taught Doctorate and PhD students and more than 70 staff. Over the past two years, the School has recruited more than 20 new academic staff from world-leading universities, with plans for further expansion in 2018/19.

The School is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and benefits from close working relationships with colleagues across the Faculty. It has access to our Simulation Suite, Surrey Sleep Research Centre with real world test-bed and Sports Research Institute. Within the School we have access to a range of specialist facilities including on-site EEG, tDCS and TMS laboratories, a baby lab, a driving simulator, psychophysiological and eye-tracking facilities and dedicated off site access to fMRI.

We seek to appoint a lecturer in Cognitive Psychology with an emerging international profile. We are looking for highly motivated people with a creative and collegiate approach to Psychology who are committed to both research and teaching. We welcome applications from people working in all areas of cognitive psychology but would be particularly interested in people whose work focuses on topics related to more complex cognitive processes such as creativity, memory, reasoning and decision making. As effective research on these issues often requires interdisciplinary thinking, evidence of working effectively with other disciplines would be valuable.

All post-holders will hold a doctorate in psychology or equivalent and contribute directly to research, teaching and learning and to administration in the School.  In addition to salary, you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement, excellent development opportunities, and childcare assistance.

Interviews will be held in the week beginning 27thNovember.
