Description :

University Research Fellows in Offshore Wind Energy

The fellowships are full-time of 36.5 hours per week for 5 years, (3 positions)

The University of Hull is embarking on a series of major research initiatives to tackle important global issues that focus on sustainability, energy and the environment.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering, wish to appoint three University Research Fellows that have proven abilities to undertake independent and/or collaborative research programmes to support and strengthen its mission and contribute to the academic leadership of at least one of the following research areas:

Offshore Wind: Blade Materials, Structures and Manufacturing Offshore Wind: Fault Detection and Isolation/Fault Tolerant Control Offshore Wind: Sensors and Systems

The Research Fellows will embark on a 5-year fixed term structured research programme aimed at supporting the transition of the research staff into full academic careers; developing their own independent research ideas and skills that are necessary to establish themselves as the next generation of research leaders.  Each Fellowship will be provided with a Research Support Fund (£12k per annum) to cover essential research costs.

Research Fellows will also make substantial contributions to the delivery of the £7.6M EPSRC Prosperity Partnership: A New Partnership in Offshore Wind. This is an exciting new collaboration between the Universities of Hull, Sheffield and Durham with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (the world’s largest offshore wind turbine manufacturer) and DONG Energy (the world’s largest offshore wind farm developer).

We welcome applications from candidates who hold substantive fellowships (e.g. EPSRC Early Career Fellowships, Royal Society University Research Fellowships and European Research Council Starting Grants) that can be brought to the University of Hull and can thus be extended in length. Those who are current candidates for such a fellowship are also welcome to apply, and should give details of their date of application and when the outcome is expected to be known.

The University of Hull holds the Athena SWAN University Bronze Award in recognition of its commitment to advancing women's careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment and offers a number of family-friendly employment practices that are designed to enable a good work-life balance.
